Design Shanghai 2024: Showcasing the Pinnacle of Creativity and Innovation

Four Halls Delivering a World of Design - Placing a Global Spotlight on Acclaimed Brands and Product Launches

Asia’s largest international design event enters its eleventh year and expects to welcome over 100,000 visitors over four days, from 19th-22nd June 2024, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre. Over the past decade, Design Shanghai has become one of the biggest design shows in the world, showcasing exceptional designs from global and Chinese brands and visionary designers, enlightening forums and summits, and captivating features and installations. Design Shanghai explores how Eastern and Western design philosophies can work together synergistically across 4 vibrant halls, which have grown by a third for this years edition; Hall 1 ‘Furniture and Lighting’, Hall 2 ‘Kitchen and Bathroom’, Hall 3 ‘Living and Lifestyle’ and Hall 4 ‘New Materials and Application’. Design Shanghai has always been a revered stage for brands to debut their new products, this year the show will present over 700 top-tier brands spanning furniture, lighting, kitchen, bathroom, and material design brands, all sourced from around the globe.

Thomas Heatherwick’s Humanised Scroll Stand (Hall 1)

 

Hall 1 assembles the very best furniture and lighting design brands from across the globe, a hub of creative contemporary design talents with a vast selection of leading high-end design brands and emerging independent designers - cutting-edge innovators ready to captivate and inspire. A notable highlight within this hall is Thomas Heatherwick’s ‘Humanised Stand’. Heatherwick, founder and design director of Heatherwick Studio, is known for numerous projects in Shanghai, including the award winning 2010 EXPO British Pavilion, 1000 Trees as well as the recently opened West Bund Orbit, and will launch the Chinese-language edition of his book ‘Humanise: A Maker's Guide to Building Our World’ at a special event during the show on the 19th of June. Heatherwick will also join a panel with fellow designers and architects as well as sign books at the Humanise Stand.

Expect exhibitions across this hall that blend art and design, with international highlights from; French luxury glassmaker Lalique, Italian lighting brand Icone Srl, Italian luxury outdoor furniture brand Ethimo, innovative Italian lighting Masiero, Japanese wood furniture manufacturer Karimoku Case, British luxury paint brand Mylands, Spanish ICEX, which will present brands Agora, Viccarbe, Colección Alexandra, LZF Lamps and RS Barcelona, Italian furniture brand Monography, German manufacturer Bretz, Czech lighting designers Sans Souci and French furniture brand Maison Dada.

Chinese exhibitor highlights include acclaimed Frank Chou Collection, which will be debuting a brand-new sofa with a heightened sense of tactility, U+ one of China’s most popular furnishings brands, lighting brand SEEDDESIGN, Shanghai (and London) based design practice Stellar Works, outdoor furniture and accessories brand KunDesign, furniture brand Ziinlife, high-end furniture HC28, home furnishing brand Why Garden led by acclaimed designer MengYe, and high-end residential lighting brand XRZLux; the latter brand will be spotlighting three new products at Design Shanghai Alderm, Nimo and Skyline. Exhibitors showcasing for the first time at Design Shanghai in this hall include Monography, EMU, Mindo, Etro, Gianfranco Ferre, Anonima Castelli, Stilnovo & Linea Light Group, A-Emotional Light, Arturo Alvares, and Why Garden.

Lalique, Cactus Table (Hall 1)

 

Kitchen and Bathroom Hall 2 presents the highest-end innovative design solutions, demonstrating quality innovation across components, materials, equipment and effective space optimization. Highlight exhibitors include the Israeli pioneer in quartz surfaces Caesarstone, German luxurious kitchen architecture brand Poggenpohl, Spanish ceramic tiles manufacturer Porcelanosa, German kitchen manufacturer SieMatic, Swiss bathroom solution brand Laufen, German-Swiss kitchen equipment manufacturer Liebherr, German bathroom and dining ceramics brand Villeroy & Boch, German kitchen supplier Leicht, Swedish home appliances manufacturer ASKO, and French sanitaryware manufacturer SFA. SieMatic will be launching three new products, the Mondial Series, New S2 Series and Grey Cabin. The Mondial series’ interplay of materials, shapes and colours combines the simplicity of geometric forms with the opulence of expressive materials within the kitchen, the S2 series spotlights elegant, minimalistic furniture elements and the Grey Cabin allows the aesthetic and functional benefits of the carcases to take centre stage.

Chinese exhibitors include high-end mosaic brand The Boutique, high-end kitchen appliances brand FOTILE, and Chinese leading door and window manufacture and designing brand Epolys. Exhibitors showcasing for the first time at the event in this hall include SFA, Basistem and Schueco.

Poggenpohl, +MODO Collection (Hall 2)

 

Hall 3 Living & Lifestyle will bring together leading domestic and foreign brands, craftsmen and artists to present products from soft furnishings, fragrances, accessories, textiles, tableware, as well as design quality products in multiple categories such as carpets, wallpapers, paints, and artworks. Due to its popularity last year, the 2024 exhibition hall has been expanded and upgraded with many European fragrance and accessory brands heading to Shanghai to unveil their latest collections. Visitors can expect to see collections from; Belgian high-end luxury home fragrance Baobab, Italian fragrance design brand Dr.Vranjes, British architectural paint brand Dulux, Danish home accessories brand Reflections Copenhagen, Italian national treasure blown glass lighting and accessories brand Venini, British porcelain brand Wedgwood, German porcelain pioneer Meissen, Hungarian national treasure porcelain Herend, Italian luxury candle makers Meloria, Danish glass design brand Holmegaard, as well as Turkish glassware brand NUDE. Reflections Copenhagen will be showcasing the new ‘Naughty Mirage Collection’, a playful collection that celebrates the beauty of colours in crystal and explores the artistic shapes of materials.

In continuing to celebrate Eastern and Western design, local exhibitors include; handcrafted carpet makers Fuli, crystal craft brand Jingzhan, banquet porcelain brand AURATIC, high-end wood furniture brand LIANGMU, home accessories brand TINGHOME, crystal glassware brand MU16 and Huaqianwu Ceramic Art Studio, to name a few. Exhibitors within hall 3 showcasing for the first time at Design Shanghai include BAOBAB, Holmegaard, LA ROCHÈRE, Chalk Paint and Sandriver.

Holmegaard, Forma Collection (Hall 3)

 

A new hall addition to Design Shanghai, Hall 4 will be capturing new trends and materials, enabling visitors to take in the latest materials, technology, and applications trends in one dynamic space. The innovative application of materials has always been one of the core topics in the design field and in Hall 4, the latest materials and application solutions will be on display from many international brands including; Italian leader in wood dyeing TABU, Italian leading synthetic fibre manufacturer ECONYL®, Spanish brand Cement Design, American surface solutions brand Formica, German producer of high-quality polymer materials Covestro, Italian synthetic textile manufacturer Alcantara and German surface specialist Schattdecor.

Chinese exhibitors include recycled silicone manufacturer Laedana, electronics manufacturer Anker, high-tech ceramic additive manufacturing company Cerawei. Material designers, engineers, product designers, architects, interior designers and artists will take to the show to reveal cutting-edge inspiration and solutions. Anker will be unveiling its global launch of new products with the ‘Hatema Series’.Hall 4 is a testament to Design Shanghai’s continued vision of promoting the exploration and exchange of ideas that are shaping the future. Exhibitors Schattdecor, Laedana and CERAWEI will be displayed at Design Shanghai for the first time.

Anker (Hall 4)

 

Design Shanghai celebrates a wealth of creative accomplishments and is set to share new ideas from both the world’s rising stars and industry tastemakers. Design Shanghai has established itself as an event that champions Chinese designers and brands, celebrating the culture, craftsmanship and both the traditions and innovations of the country. This celebration of homegrown talent is accompanied by an appreciation for global designers and the desire to bring the two design identities, of the East and West, together. A vibrant mix of pioneering exhibitors, with brands such as U+, Lalique, Wedgwood, and Chen Darui showcasing at Design Shanghai demonstrate the event's influence in the design industry.
